FLOAT Services: Massage Therapy & Bodywork

A variety of massage and bodywork techniques are used within the context of an acupuncture session to address a specific area of the body that is injured, painful or out of balance.  Abigail integrates techniques from her past experience as a medical massage therapist (CranioSacral Therapy, Shiatsu, Tui-Na, Myofascial Release, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) with Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine to get quick, effective results. Please note that the acupuncturist no longer offers full-body massage, but rather integrates massage within the context of an acupuncture treatment as needed.

Full-body therapeutic massage is available in our office by appointment by the following independent Licensed Massage Therapists.  Please contact them directly to schedule a session in our office or in your home:

ACUPRESSURE
Literally, acupuncture with finger pressure.  The same acupoints are used, only with gentle, sustained finger pressure instead of needles.  Very effective for children or for patients who are needle-phobic.
AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy is a general term to describe the use of volatile liquid plant materials, known as essential oils, that are used affect a person's mood or health.  At FLOAT, essential oils are used in combination with acupuncture/ acupressure to deepen the effects of a treatment.  The use of essential oils with anti-septic, antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial properties are particularly effective in treating patients with chronic infections, colds and flus.  Certain essential oils have also been shown to effectively reduce stress, anxiety, and menstrual cramps, and to ease labor pains.  We use only top-grade, sustainable, Eco-Cert or Organic, and/or non-sprayed essential oils.
PREGNANCY & POSTPARTUM MASSAGE
Sometimes, the most effective way to relieve the back pain, edema, headaches or fatigue associated with pregnancy is with massage.  Drawing on her eight years' experience in treating pregnant and postpartum women with massage, Abigail uses acupressure, CranioSacral Therapy, deep tissue and Tui-Na as well as acupuncture and herbal medicine to address the specific needs of women during the childbearing cycle.  She does not offer full-body massage therapy, but she often integrates massage within an acupuncture session.  If you would like to schedule a full-body Prenatal or Postpartum Massage session in our office or in your home, please click here.
TUI-NA
Tui-Na is an ancient Chinese form of soft tissue and joint manipulation that addresses many types of orthopedic problems.  It is excellent for arthritis, back pain, sciatica, repetitive strain, and carpal tunnel syndrome.  Tui-Na is intense, but not painful.
